Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of our most commonly asked questions that might help you experience the best out of our shop and tamales.
- Are your tamales gluten-free?
Yes, our tamales are 100% gluten-free.
- Do you use pork lard in your tamales?
We only use pork lard in our meat tamales. The vegetarian and vegan tamales use vegetable oil (soybean), the sweet corn uses butter and sweet raisin uses vegetable oil.
- Are your vegan tamales truly vegan?
- Do I have to pre-order to pick-up tamales at the tamale shop?
We always have warm and ready-to-eat tamales that we are always steaming. You do not have to pre-order if you are picking up less than one dozen. Be aware that during lunch and dinner hours, cooked tamale quantities could vary depending on real-time demand. If you want a larger order, submit an order online. Frozen tamales are a different story. Since we are always making them, you are pretty safe just showing up to take dozens of frozen tamales home. If it makes you feel better, submit an order online so we know you are coming.
- Are same day orders welcomed?
Yes. For larger same-day orders, please allow for at least an hour before pick-up time (unless frozen). Large orders means bigger than a dozen.
- Are your tamales pre-packed?
No. Our tamales are not pre-packed.
- Do you provide salsas with your tamales?
We do. We will give you small sides of salsa (spicy or medium), sour cream and pickled carrots and onions. If you want more, you can buy extra sides when you get your tamales.
- Are special orders and modifications welcomed?
Due to the high demand for our tamales, we do not allow special flavor modifications. We hope to be able to add more filling options in the near future.
- How do the frozen tamales work?
Frozen tamales just means that the dough (masa) is raw. Everything inside the tamale is already cooked. When you take frozen tamales home, you can use our cooking instructions which will ensure that your tamales are cooked to perfection.
- How long will frozen tamales keep?
We say no more than two months. We are sure that they would keep longer but we've never tried it because we always eat them right away :)
- How long will cooked tamales keep?
If you take cooked tamales with you and plan to save some for later, we do not recommend more than a week in the fridge. However, if you put the cooked tamales in the freezer, they will be fine for a couple months. Make sure to steam them again to reheat them. Check out our cooking recommendations.
- Does your tamale shop have inside seating?
Not at the moment. We currently only serve tamales to go through our fun dutch door window :)
- Do you deliver?
We do. Check out our delivery page for more info.
